Artist in Focus – A Visit to the Studio of Jane Kitching
Born in India, Jane spent much of her childhood in North Yorkshire where she developed her love of painting. Formally studying Textiles and Design brought her considerable success in the UK and abroad, but she returned to her first love – painting.
Working in acrylics and, later, oils in her studio in Swainby, near Stokesley, she is a wonderful observer of people and they often appear in her works, particularly children. Her painting style evokes happy feelings and joyful memories in the observer.
St Mary’s College at Durham University, to celebrate the 125th year of its foundation, has Jane as its Artist in Residence for 2024/25. Her mother graduated from the college in 1948, so it is a very special connection.
She is currently studying for a Diploma in Oil Painting with Martin Kinnear Studio. Her more recent works, in Oil and Mixed Media (below) strongly illustrate the development of her current artistic practice.
