Yorkshire Scenery
It is a commonly held belief, even for the unlucky folk who do not dwell in these parts, that Yorkshire scenery is some of the best and the most beautiful in the world. It is, after all, not called ‘God’s Own County’ for nothing!
Two of our artists – Linda Mellin and Kate Lycett – capture the essence of Yorkshire scenery with their very different and appealing styles. Whilst their choice of colours and techniques differ, it is obvious that this vast part of the country, from dales to coast, forms part of their soul.
Kate embellishes her prints with gold thread and gold leaf. This enhances them to such a beautiful degree that in different lights, at different times of day, in different seasons, they change and delight. You stop and look as the light catches the gold and it is as though you have discovered that particular view for the first time.
Linda uses vibrant colour to entice the viewer, as well as artistic license in her Yorkshire scenery, placing landmarks in various unexpected positions in the composition of the picture. This technique adds interest and conversation, as you question where certain features actually exist in the real world, particularly in such works as ‘North Riding’. Linda embellishes her prints too, giving them a very original feel.
We are always adding new works to our range by Linda Mellin and Kate Lycett. They are popular artists and demonstrate through their work the true beauty and appeal of God’s Own County.
