An Interesting Commission
We thought we’d share an interesting framing commission Sarah has just completed.
It’s a personalised frame for one of the pilots – Paul ‘Giz’ Taylor – who took part in the R.A.F. 100 Flypast on 10th July, 2018 over Buckingham Palace in Windsor Formation.
Paul flew in a Diamond Nine of Tucanos from R.A.F. Linton on Ouse, Call sign, Swift. He is in the plane on the far right.
It was a real pleasure completing this commission and very interesting hearing the background. Paul is an extremely proud pilot, and rightfully so!

The ‘Just A Card’ Campaign Gains Momentum
We are proud volunteers for this fabulous campaign and know first hand how greatly it has benefited our own independent business. Imagine if all the independent businesses across the U.K. placed one of these stickers in their window? Imagine, then, how much the general public would further understand the simple message? Buying even ‘just a card’ (or ‘just a coffee,’ ‘just a notebook,’ ‘just a cake…..’) could transform the High Street. Small purchases help small businesses keep ticking over, and small businesses make our High Streets vibrant and interesting.
After Top Drawer in London (14th – 16th January, 2018) our gallery will be sending out stickers to independent shops at their request. So, if you can’t attend Top Drawer in person, keep an eye on justacard.org for details. It is the campaign’s mission to plaster the whole country with stickers and help change the nation’s shopping habits.
Top Drawer have kindly provided the campaign with a stand and Printed.com have generously provided the stickers. Their invaluable help is gratefully appreciated. Will you help us all spread the word?
The High Street is worth saving and small business are worth keeping, don’t you think?
Benedict Cumberbatch Does Christmas
Those of you who are familiar with our gallery will know we are huge supporters of, and volunteers for, the fabulous Just a Card Campaign.
This year Just a Card has teamed up with a U.K. based Arts Charity called Anno’s Africa to sell and distribute packs of Christmas cards designed by Benedict Cumberbatch. We are delighted to be the sole distributor of these cards. They are exclusively available online via www.justacard.org (where you can also learn more about the campaign) and in person in our gallery.
Hundreds of packs have already been sold to over twenty-five countries. Don’t miss your opportunity to buy your packs. You will be supporting a worthy charity and a meaningful campaign at the same time!
Sudeshna Chattopadhyay and The Art of Serenity
Now based in York, Sudeshna was born in India, but has also lived in Alicante and Mexico City.
She recently graduated with a BA (First Class Hons) in Contemporary Fine Art from the University of Leeds.
Sudeshna says, ‘My paintings feel like pages in my diary through which I explore everyday feelings associated with the experiences of relationships to the self, other, objects.
I use acrylics and oils to work in an intuitive and playful way, exploring their materiality and juxtaposing thick paint with thin to create an interesting contrast on the surfaces of my paintings.
My chosen palette consists of pastel shades, as I see them as colours which offer a quiet and contemplative mood to the viewer’s eye. Sometimes I change this to livelier colours depending on the mood in the painting I am working on.
I think of Amadeo Modigliani, Gwen John, Peter Doig, Winifred Nicholson, Henri Matisse amongst many others when I work.
I prefer to let the viewer give meaning to my work in time and space; after all, I am of the view that what a piece of work means to me keeps changing.’
A quietly spoken woman, there is a peace and serenity in Sudeshna’s personality and her paintings. With titles such as ‘Comforted’ and ‘Appreciation,’ it is easy to observe the artist within the art and the art inside the artist. Art is most definitely an expression of personality. Owning a work by Sudeshna Chattopadhyay is like owning joy and peace. We love her bold, colourful paintings with their expressions of charm, individuality and serenity and we hope you do too.
